From the short film Los elefantes nunca olvidan (2003) to his second feature film La caja (2021), and after the success he achieved with his debut feature Desde allá (2015), Venezuelan filmmaker Lorenzo Vigas has spent almost two decades delving into the theme of fatherhood, that which is exercised from denial or violence, to that which is conspicuous by its absence. He has said that, perhaps, the film with which he returns to the Venice International Film Festival, where in 2015 he received the Golden Lion, closes the trilogy around the figure of the father. "For now, The Box is the end of a cycle, of a stage in my career, but who's to say that the theme will return. That's what obsessions are like," Vigas says from Mexico, where he has been living for twenty years.
